The Community College Journalism Association (CCJA) was founded in 1968 (as the Junior College Journalism Association; the new name was adopted in 1974) as a direct result of two summer seminars for community college journalism teachers at the University of Texas-Austin in 1966 and 1967.

Dave Cuillier wins 2006 GIFT competition

Dr. Dave Cuillier of the University of Arizona received the 2006 GIFT
grand prize at the recent AEJMC convention in San Francisco.

Cuillier's GIFT is titled "Finding That Dreamhouse Without FOI
Nightmares: How to make access to public records relevant in
reporting and law classes through a house and neighborhood
document background search."

Cullier received a plaque and a $100 check from the GIFT
sponsors: Community College Journalism Association, Small
Programs Interest Group and Scholastic Journalism Division.

His GIFT and 24 other great ideas for teachers are included
in a souvenir publication. Copies of the 2006 GIFT edition
are still on sale for $10, or three for $25US (plus $3 each
to cover postage and envelope). Limited copies of past GIFT
publications are also on sale. To order the GIFT publications,
send requests to aejmcgift@yahoo.com.

The non-profit GIFT program celebrated its 7th anniversary this
year with 85 submissions in the spring; 25 were chosen to
participate in the poster session at the summer convention with
Cuillier being judged as the top GIFT scholar.

2006 HOF luncheon held in San Francisco

Dr. John Neal was inducted into the CCJA Hall of Fame Aug. 5, 2006, during the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication convention in San Francisco. Two previous inductees, Dr. Steve Ames and Nils Rosdahl, were present at the event.

The next Hall of Fame induction will be held during the College Media Advisers convention in 2007.
